So much has been happening...

So much has been happening that I want to tell you guys about that I will have to post a couple of different things in the next couple of days. But I have to start with today...

Today Sheree was in the capital trying to get visas for these 4 kids who need to go to the states for open heart surgeries. Thank you to all of you who prayed...all of the kids were approved to travel for their surgeries in the next couple of weeks.

But since Sheree was out of town, that meant that once again I was at the clinic without any english speakers. And today, that was a challenge because there were some really complicated moments. There was a 17month old little boy named Josue completely listless, in hypovolemic shock. I mean totally out of it. His eyes were open, but he wasn't really seeing anything, and he wasn't moving at all except for that really scary fevered breathing. It was really scary. I put an IV in him and took his temperature...it was 105. I spent 2 hours sponging him in tepid water before he really came back around. We gave him a lot of fluid and then we sent him on to the hospital.

And then just shortly after Josue had come around a bit, this little 8 month old came in with a fever of 104, I gave her a suppository, but less than a minute later she was seizing. It took us 4 attempts to get an IV in the little girl before we could give her some medicine to stop the seizures. I sat and monitored both of these kids for an hour or more while we waited for taxis to send them to the hospital. It was totally scary, and such a crazy morning.

But it was kind of an uplifting experience for me because for one, I do actually think the kids are going to be okay, and because I was able to do what I came here to do. In the midst of the craziness with Josue, Dr. Gerardo and Dr. Salavarria came over to the bedside, and I told them that I was going to pray for the kid but in english. And I prayed for the kid in english while they prayed beside me in spanish. That was a powerful moment. And then later before I left for the day, Gerardo thanked me for being there because he said when he got there that morning and the kid was dying in his arms he turned around and saw me, and he said it was like from heaven. It was nice to hear.

More to come...

Wow Jen... so much is happening.I am reminded of this verse after reading what u just posted : “The LORD God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hind’s feet, and makes me walk on my high places”. I'll be praying for you and those that you come in contact with-that God will continue to give you what you need to get through the day and the knowledge to go with it:)

I am very proud of you! It sounds to me like you did exactly what you should have...for treatment and asking for divine intervention. I know that the clinic is going to reallyREALLY miss you when you have to come home. I am so glad that all the kids were approved for visas. I'll let all that I sent an email to for prayers know...
Love,
MOM

Sounds like you are really busy there! Such cool experiences you are having that will impact your life forever. Toby's snot is mostly gone. Once in a great while he'll wake up with a snot nose but it's usually gone within an hour. Usually if it was a cold night. But it's been really hot here the last few weeks. He's growing again. Sleeps all day and eats sooo much! He's as cute as ever though. Elias put his shirt on him yesterday morning. It was pretty funny. We miss you here. Really hope you get to come back and visit soon. Glad to hear the spanish is improving. I was talking to some ladies this morning that were sure my parents must speak spanish because my spanish was so good. I was just laughing...I still make so many mistakes I'm surprised anyone understands me. Yes I know the whole group not understanding anything scenario. Still happens to me at times and Elias too when we're with my family. So don't worry about that. The tamales in Guatemala were nasty so maybe they're the same as there. Cool that you've lost weight but not cool that you've been sick. Elias and I have been running every morning...except yesterday and today! But we have bee trying to exercise more and eat better. It's hard and I hate to get up early and do it but if we don't go in the morning the day flies by and we don't end up going. Well, feel free to read my blog for more updates. Although I haven't been very good about posting lately. So busy. jarillofamily.blogspot.com

Love you,

Katie, Elias and Toby

This post was very encouraging. Even though it was a hard experience, the fact that you were a witness to them was wonderful. The situations that God uses in our life to show His power and love are unbelievable. We will be praying that He continues to reveal Himself through you and to you. All of our Love!!!

Oh and we have your car. We spend some time out in front of your house while Gabe jumped the battery, and while Eli reminded us that you were not home but in "Hoodorus" and that you were very far away and couldnt have lunch with us tomorrow.... But it works and he has not had any problems with it so far.. Thanks Again!!
